2022 High School Math Contest Information

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Houston will host its High School Mathematics Contest on January 29, 2022 ONLINE.

The contest will consist of 9 Individual Exams as well as The SmackDown Event. Note that the Team Project will not be a part of this year's contest. Certificates and gift cards will be awarded to the top students from each individual exam. In addition, Team Trophies will be awarded and shipped to schools based upon overall student performance on the individual competitions. Individual exams will be given in the following areas:

Algebra 1

Geometry

Algebra 2

Pre-Calculus

Calculus

Statistics

Physics

Number Sense

Calculator Usage

SmackDown

These exams will be given ONLINE on the day of the contest, with a time limit of 50 minutes.
(Exceptions: Number Sense is a 30 minute exam, and SmackDown lasts until students are eliminated and only one student remains.)

Students can take at most 3 subject exams, as follows and as permitted by the schedule.

·         Students are eligible to take AT MOST ONE of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, PreCalculus provided that they sign up for an exam at or above the level of the course they are currently taking in school. Any student can take the Calculus exam (for which a student does not need to currently be enrolled.) All of these exams are offered in the same time slot in 2022.

·         Two of the following: Statistics, Physics, Number Sense, and Calculator exams.

All students can ALSO enter the SmackDown competition, regardless of the other competitions they have entered.

Opens on 1/15/22 at 5:00 p.m. CST and lasts through 8:45 a.m. on the date of the contest. (The students' teacher/parent should register first, and can then share the needed registration information so that the students can register.)
